Brasier's gets a Medicare Jet-Setter Groovy Review

For more years than I can remember, I went with family and friends to The Captains Quarters bar every Friday after work. We had a beer or two, and then we went out to eat. It was a fun way to start the weekend. We did this so long that our children got old enough to join us. Time passed, the bar changed its owners and its name. People moved, people died, and the Friday gatherings ended.

One thing I never imagined was that the tradition would resume. Yes, it is a different town with different people, but Friday after work is happening again at Brasier's Bar and Lounge in Okmulgee. Finding just the right place is no easy chore. Hunting for it doesn't even work. A proper bar must be discovered, and we found one. All the check marks were there. It is not the kind of place to go for getting drunk, but for relaxing and unwinding.

Brasier's Bar is friendly, and since my daughter-in-law, Karla LaMunyon, knows everyone in Okmulgee, the rest of us have made new Friday friends because she introduces us. Charlie, the owner, remembers our favorite drinks and takes time to have a laugh with us. The bar is clean and comfortable, with a warm feeling about it. Although Brasier's doesn't serve food, people can have food delivered or brought in.

If you want, you can also buy the best tacos or tamales I have ever tasted from a gentleman who comes inside Brasiers every Friday night to sell the fresh food delights his wife lovingly prepares.

There is a large bar and many tables, but they also have comfortable sofas and chairs with large cocktail tables where people can play games the bar provides. Brasier's Bar has all the things I have been looking for, making all the marks checked.

Oh, you want to know about the drinks. So far, everything I have tried has been yummy, with just the right amount of ingredients to make the drinks memorable. My sister, Shelley Stutchman, took a sip of her martini, and her eyes got wide. By her third sip, she declared it the best martini she ever tasted. Her dirty martini was the perfect blend of vodka and olive juice, topped off with big, luscious olives. Shelley proclaimed the owner Charles, King of the impeccable dirty martini.

Next time you are in Okmulgee, stop by Brasier's Bar & Lounge 217 E. 6th St. Okmulgee OK 74447.
